A new free nationwide battery recycling service funded by battery compliance schemes aims to “triple” battery collection volumes across the UK.
Battrecycle already has over 30,000 collection points available across the UK and says it is due to expand in partnership with supermarkets, retailers, local authorities, and schools.
The Battrecycle online collection point locater enables consumers to identify their closest Battrecycle bin. Local authorities, schools, and other retailers can also become a collection point.
Supported by a nationwide digital marketing campaign to educate and raise awareness of battery recycling, the #BigYellowBatteryBin featuring mascot Battery Bob helps consumers identify collection points to deposit their dead batteries.
For every battery recycled, Battrecycle says it will fund community projects designed to educate and increase local access to the environment.
Battrecycle says users will eventually be able to assign which local community project they would like to “contribute” their dead batteries to, and follow the progress of these projects on Battrecycle’s social media channels and website.
