Enva has completed the pollution, prevention control permitting process with SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) for its new waste electrical and electronic equipment recycling facility in Scotland.
When it opens later in the summer, Enva said the facility will be the “only” fridge recycling plant in Scotland and provide domestic recycling capacity for all the country’s waste fridges. Enva said it the facility will recover and recycle over 98% of the fridges’ components.
Enva provides waste management and resource recovery solutions. The company already operates across 38 facilities in the United Kingdom and Ireland and employs over 1700 people.
Enva said the facility will be able to recycle over 10,000 tonnes of small domestic appliances such as kettles, toasters, vacuum cleaners, and coffee machines, per year. Enva said it has invested £10 million into the Perthshire facility and has committed to attaining the independently audited WEEELABEX standard.
In addition to its obvious environmental and commercial benefits the facility will provide additional skilled employment for the local community.

“As Scotland’s only fridge recycling plant, it is a critical piece of infrastructure providing much-needed domestic recycling capability for local authorities and producer compliance schemes. In addition to its obvious environmental and commercial benefits the facility will provide additional skilled employment for the local community.”
