Residents are being warned to stay away from the scene of a plastics recycling plant blaze that broke out on Tuesday afternoon (1 May).
Around 60 firefighters across 10 crews still in attendance at a 300 Recycling Ltd fire in Factory Road, Sandycroft, after North Wales Fire and Rescue Service received the call at 3.14pm yesterday.
Crews from Wrexham, Flint, Buckley, Mold, Llandudno, Deeside and Wrexham, Rhyl, Johnstown and Ruthin are dealing with a fire “involving plastics”, a statement from the department said.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using hose reels and main jets to deal with the fire.
“We are asking people travelling on those roads to reduce their speed. Please stay away from the riverside cycle path in Sandycroft this evening if you are cycling or walking your dog.”
Members of the public have been asked to “keep away” from the incident and to keep all doors and windows in the area closed.
Darren Jones from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said in a statement last night: “Visibility is poor on the A494 and the M56 due to the thick smoke coming from this incident.
“We are asking people travelling on those roads to reduce their speed. Please stay away from the riverside cycle path in Sandycroft this evening if you are cycling or walking your dog.
“Water supplies could be affected in this area this evening whilst firefighters are tackling this fire.”
The incident is still on-going.
