To celebrate the Year of Young People 2018, the Scottish Resource Awards has teamed up with The Vibes Scottish Environment Business Awards to present the 2018 Young People Award.
The winners will be announced at an awards dinner on the evening of Thursday 4 October at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.
This award recognises individuals or groups under the age of 30 who have stood out from the crowd during the last 12 months and have made a real difference to waste, recycling or to environmental sustainability in general and resource management in their local area, or on a regional or national project.
The awards are presented as part of the Scottish Resources Conference, which runs from 3-4 October. The event, delivered by Zero Waste Scotland, CIWM and SEPA, and hosted by BBC Scotland’s Sally Magnusson, has become a must-attend for professionals in Scotland’s circular economy and resources sector.
Keynote speakers this year include Ian Schofield, Own Label and Packaging Manager at Iceland Foods and Cabinet Secretary for the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform, Roseanna Cunningham MSP.

“I hope the success of these young people will also encourage others to get involved in the Resource Management Sector whether that’s in their personal life or as part of a career in this vital sector.”

The shortlist for the Young People Award
Anton Puzorjov
Anton created One Cherry – an online marketplace for over 13,000 second-hand shops, such as charity shops. By allowing shops to start selling their items online 24/7 using a single smartphone, One Cherry increases the footfall, allows shops to reach a new audience, and ultimately raise more money for the good causes.
Kate Chambers
Kate is a CIWM member, a volunteer with the 2050 Climate Group and an environmental contributor to BBC The Social. For two years, she has worked with Vegware, an Edinburgh-based plant-based packaging company, and has been integral to the delivery of the Close the Loop composting service.
Scott Kennedy & Fergus Moore
Scott and Fergus founded Revive Eco. Revive’s operations involve providing a waste collection service, and a range of environmentally-friendly products derived from used coffee grounds. They are already recycling 250kg of coffee waste every week.
Saskia Goeres, Kevin O’Malley, Decio Emanuel, Nicole Ney: “The team behind ‘Sofa for Life’, an innovative sofa design within a circular service, extending the sofa’s lifetime and enabling reuse and recycling. They have been working to bring an idea from the first sketch to a fully working prototype and are now working to develop a business that can provide a more sustainable sofa to the market.”
