CIWM and CIWM London & Southern Counties Centre are holding a series of webinars, starting with the lessons learned from COVID-19 and how these lessons can inform and shape the sector’s contribution to a sustained green recovery, and its longer term ambitions around Net Zero and COP26.
This first webinar brings together senior speakers, to discuss what strategic planning and risk management lessons can be learned from the way the resources and waste sector responded to the developing crisis, and how this learning can shape future policy and practices. Topics covered include:
• Waste collection: key challenges in maintaining services and the practical, social and the wider environmental responsibilities around this.
• Waste disposal and treatment centres: the main technological / operational /compliance issues and/or risks that emerged, including off take and supply chain vulnerabilities, and feedstock disruption for key materials such as WEEE.
• Communication: Lessons in effective communication and engagement with public/customers e.g. on re-opening HWRCs, PPE, flushing of wet wipes etc).
• Broader / longer term impacts on services, related functions, contractual relationships and business continuity planning.
