Processing 15,000 tonnes of waste at its Southwark Materials Recovery Facility will take the equivalent of 12,266 cars off the road in terms of carbon emissions, Veolia says.
Veolia has won a two-year recycling haulage and processing contract with Medway Council, which commenced at the beginning of October 2022. The new £2.7million contract will run until October 2024, with the option of an additional two-year extension.
The contract consists of two parts, Veolia says. Firstly, bulking and haulage services at the Rochester waste transfer station for dry mixed recyclables, mixed paper and card and organics (bulking only).
The second part involves the processing of Dry Mixed Recyclables (DMR) at the Southwark integrated waste management facility and the processing of mixed paper and card and other ancillary wastes.

Veolia held a previous contract with Medway Council for bulking and haulage between 2019 and 2022. It has also been providing disposal services since 2010 and has been processing DMR from Medway at the Southwark Materials Recovery since February 2012.
