CIWM announces the election of Prof David Greenfield FCIWM to the position of Junior Vice President (elect).
Greenfield is the Professor of Circular Economy at the University of Brighton, where he lectures across multiple facilities and works with academics to incorporate circular economy into the curriculum.
He will formally take over the role of Junior Vice President from Tim Walker, who will become Senior Vice President, at the CIWM Presidential Inauguration in June this year.
CIWM says that Greenfield brings a “huge wealth of experience and expertise” to the organisation across both waste management and the circular economy and describes him as a “true industry leader”.
He currently holds several positions, including Managing Director and Founder of SONECS, a research and innovation practice that focuses on Circular Economy Solutions, where he led or co-authored the Brighton & Hove and West Midlands Circular Economy Routemaps and the 2015 and 2021 CIWM Presidential reports.
Greenfield is the founding Partner of etsaW Ventures, a venture studio supporting circular economy start-ups “innovate into game-changing” impact in the novel material and resource recovery field.

Greenfield is also the co-founder of Tech-Takeback, a not-for-profit using the ZeroNet on-demand app to collect data erase and reuse or recycle over 100,000 end-of-life electricals in Brighton & Hove. Tech-Takeback won the 2021 Business Green Leaders Award for Circular Economy and has been shortlisted for four National Recycling Awards.
