With the persistent risk of fire at waste sites, and with health and safety at the forefront of operations in the waste industry, The Wood Recyclers’ Association (WRA) has a useful guide for writing Wood Waste Fire Prevention Plans (FPP).
Launched at the end of 2018 in close association with the Environment Agency, the guide outlines many aspects including: the different fraction sizes of waste wood that may be stored and the differences in their storage requirements, as well as discussing seasonality challenges faced by the industry and how to explain these in an FPP.
The WRA guide leads operators through a process to give them the best chance of getting approval for their FPP – a legal requirement for all sites storing combustible materials.
