On Thursday, November 14, Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms will become the epicentre of Scotland’s resource and waste management industry as professionals gather for Resourcing Scotland 2024.
This new event has been organised by the CIWM Scotland Centre, in partnership with REA, RMAS, SESA, and the Local Authority Waste Managers and Officers Network, to bring together thought leaders, industry veterans, and new voices for a full day of discussions, problem-solving, and networking.
With a focus on operationalising policy, the conference will unite stakeholders from across the industry with the goal of tackling the real-world challenges facing Scotland’s resource management sector.
From emissions trading to plastics strategy and decarbonisation, the topics covered will help shape the future of the industry – and Resourcing Scotland 2024 aims to be at the heart of it all.

Laura Tainsh shared her vision for Resourcing Scotland 2024 with Circular Online, emphasising the importance of maintaining momentum within Scotland’s active resource management industry.

Resourcing Scotland 2024 aims to generate ideas and solutions which can then be translated into a white paper – summarising and distilling those key, valuable insights.
The one-day format will feature both presentations and interactive workshops, setting out to be a “more approachable” and hands-on forum for professionals, particularly newer voices in the industry.
A live podcast will feature student participants – a step toward bringing fresh perspectives alongside seasoned industry veterans.
Another key focus is on Local Authorities (LAs), according to Tainsh, who play a significant role in the industry. Free tickets have been offered to ensure their participation and encourage their engagement.
Pressing challenges
