Ten fire engines were deployed to a “severe fire” at Biffa’s recycling plant in Aldridge, Walsall, on 4 January.
Although West Midlands Fire Service has not determined the cause of the fire, they said it appears to have started in a recycling compactor with an unknown quantity of waste alight.
Ten fire engines, a hydraulic platform and a drone were deployed to handle the “complex incident” at the recycling plant, which the fire service says is now under control.
As of 5 January, West Midlands Fire Service remained on scene liaising with the site managers.
A spokesperson for Biffa said: “We can confirm that the fire services have been called to attend an incident at the Biffa Aldridge processing site.
“The building has been fully evacuated and all colleagues accounted for with no injuries reported. We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response.”
Firefighters entered the premises using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets, as well as the hydraulic platform to help extinguish the fire.
West Midlands Fire Service said it used the drone to identify hotspots to help firefighters concentrate their efforts.
