The UK’s leading national recycling and waste management provider, Biffa, has won a 10-year contract to manage waste, recycling and street cleansing services for Melton Borough Council in Leicestershire from October 2018.

Biffa will be implementing a brand-new fleet in the borough to deliver enhanced kerbside collection services, with the introduction of textile and small waste electrical and electronic equipment recycling collections. These will be in addition to the existing refuse, recycling, bulky, clinical and green waste collections which already operate within the area.

The waste management provider will also be introducing a Supplementary Quality Improvement Team to provide an enhanced street cleansing service, which includes dealing with issues of fly-tipping and graffiti removal.

Roger Edwards, Managing Director at Biffa, said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded the contract for waste collection and recycling for Melton Borough Council. As the existing contractor since 2003, we can provide a seamless service to the residents of Melton while introducing our brand-new fleet, and continue to deliver cost-effective services to the Council.”

In addition to improved waste collection services, Biffa will also be creating a brand-new Engagement Officer role to deliver a Borough-wide engagement and educational programme. The new Biffa Engagement Officer will be supported by a state-of-the-art integrated IT system to gather essential quantitative data in order for them to deliver more effective and targeted engagement and educational programmes.

Roger added: “We’re excited to be able to use our technology to provide a better service for members of the public, but also a safer one for drivers and residents. With the addition of 360-degree cameras to all of our frontline vehicles we will not only keep them safer, but also inspect streets more efficiently while operating the new street cleaning service.”
