Barking and Dagenham Council has stepped up the fight against waste crime by launching a new video series identifying culprits who have been illegally dumping waste.
The ‘Barking and Dagenham CCTV Appeal’ is a fortnightly round-up of fly-tipping offences and offenders that have been caught on camera.
Each episode identifies a series of incidents at fly-tipping hotspots and asks residents to get in touch if they recognise any of the offenders featured in the video.
The latest instalment shows people shamelessly dumping everything from lamps to planks and boxes, in locations across the borough.
The series also aims to educate people by providing waste disposal tips, like not adding to an existing fly-tip and calling the council for a bulky waste collection.
Councillor Margaret Mullane, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Community Safety, explained why the council have launched these YouTube videos, saying:
“We are working hard to clamp down on fly-tipping and other grime crimes in Barking and Dagenham, but we need residents’ help when it comes to identifying persistent offenders.
“The hope is that this series will act as a deterrent to fly-tippers, make us aware of those that are breaking the rules, and teach people how to dispose of their waste in the process.
“I would implore any residents who know the people featured so far to get in touch, so that we can start putting a stop to fly-tipping in the borough.
“If you don’t report it, they won’t get caught.”
