Sustainable energy producer, LondonEnergy, has partnered with Waltham Forest Council to reduce the amount of disposable coffee cups used in the borough by launching its new #MochaDifference campaign.
The #MochaDifference campaign will see the company giving away reusable cups to the first 100 customers who visit the Perky Blenders coffee shop, located in Waltham Forest Town Hall.
London Energy explained that, according to a recent Environmental Audit Committee report, we use 7m disposable coffee cups in the UK every day – 2.5bn every year and less than 1% are currently recycled.
In addition to giving away the #MochaDifference reusable coffee cups, LondonEnergy will also be installing a dedicated coffee cup recycling scheme in the Town Hall and Perky Blenders shop. These new bins will help capture more cups for recycling and prevent them from ending up in the general waste where they are lost forever. All the coffee cups collected will be fully recycled and the recovered fibre will be used in the manufacture of new products.
Commenting on the #MochaDifference initiative LondonEnergy’s Ben Napper said: “Coffee is the world’s most popular drink, and, in the UK, we drink around 95 million cups every single day. Whilst things are improving, single use coffee cups continue to unnecessarily consume a significant amount of valuable and limited natural resources.
“We hope that as well as having a direct impact in reducing single use cups that this initiative will also get people thinking about the benefits of taking their own cup the next time they want a coffee and in their own way help to #MochaDifference.”
