Wales achieves highest 12-month recycling rate on record

Wales achieved a 66.7% recycling rate between July 2023 to June 2024, which is its highest 12-month figure on record.

The figures released by the Welsh Government show a 0.7% increase in the amount of municipal waste recycled, reused, or composted compared to the year before.

Additional data for the time between April and June 2024 show 68.8% of municipal waste was reused/recycled/composted.

This is an increase of 0.4% on the equivalent quarter in 2023 and the highest figure on record for an April to June quarter.

In the same time period, 381,296 tonnes of municipal waste was generated, an increase of 0.3% on the same quarter of 2023 and a 2.6% increase on the same quarter of 2022.

The figures are based on provisional data which is published quarterly, with final data for the financial year published annually.
