New research that will assess the future of infrastructure in the UK’s waste and resources sector has been commissioned by the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC).
A tender has been published under the National Infrastructure Assessment, which is used to help shape the NIC’s thinking and recommendations, and monitor progress.
The tender states: “The purpose of the requirement will be to identify the best value infrastructure investment strategy, weighing the costs of separation and different treatment/disposal pathways against the economic, environmental and social benefits.”
It will be carried out in two stages – the first will assess the costs and benefits of increasing separation within the waste infrastructure system; and the second will assess the costs and benefits of directing the seaparted waste streams down different treatment/disposal pathways.
The horizon for analysis will be 2020 to 2050.
Closing date for applications on the £50,000-£80,000 contract is 17 July, with the research due to be completed in March 2018. Details are available here
